The Civil Guard has over 80,000 persons throughout the territory in over 2,000 facilities.

One of its main functions in the protection of nature and the environment, water resources, kinetics, fish and forestry wealth, carried out through SEPRONA.

It is thus responsible for the protection of soil, water and atmosphere, animal health and the conservation of species of flora and fauna. The Service also combats discharges and pollution of the environment, illegal trade in protected species, irregular fishing and hunting activities, defence of natural areas, prevention, research and fire-fighting.
